Abstract (EN)
[4/8 17:38] نصير بايلوجي: Propolis is one of the natural products produced by honey bees and has several novel properties, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial agents. The objective of this study was to prepare ethanolic extract propolis and evaluate its antimicrobial effect against certain bacteria isolated from wounds. One hundred fifty swab specimens were collected from wounds, mainly surgical site infections at Al- Yarmouk Education Hospital, then cultured on blood, MacConkey, and mannitol salt media. Positive growth appeared in 130 (87%). The bacterial isolates were identified using selective media and Vitek 2 compact system in order to detect Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the percentages of these isolated bacteria were (27, 20) % respectively. Multiple drug resistance was observed in most isolates in this study for more than one antibiotic. The highest antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus aureus was with Penicillin (100%) and for Pseudomonas aeruginosa was with Cefotaxime (100%) and Gentamicin (100%). Ethanolic extract propolis was prepared using 70% ethanol and soxhlet apparatus, the raw propolis was evaporated and various concentrations of propolis were processed to detect minimum inhibitory and minimum bactericidal concentrations against the determined bacteria. The MIC values of ethanolic extract propolis significantly ranged between 11.725-187.6 µg/ml for Staphylococcus aureus, while MBC values were 23.45-375 µg/ml. In Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the values of MIC and MBC were significantly 187.6-750 µg/ml and 375-1500 µg/ml respectively. [6/8 15:43] نصير بايلوجي: Prof. Dr. Oral DÜZDEMİR
