An investigation of psychology students in resilience, emotional intelligence and personality features

In this study, it is aimed to examine the relationship between the psychological resilience, emotional intelligence and personality traits of psychology undergraduate students. Examining the effects of perceived parental attitudes, emotional intelligence and personality traits on psychological resilience was also aimed. The sample of the study consisted of 211 psychology students at the grade of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in 2016-2017 at Hasan Kalyoncu University and Istanbul Aydın University. Sociodemographic information of the participants was collected, and Turkish forms of Adult Resilience Measure (ARM), Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form (TEIQue-SF), Adjective Based Personality Scale (ABPS) and Egna Minnen Betraffande Uppfostran (S-EMBU) were administered. There was a positive and statistically significant correlation between total psychological resilience scores and total emotional intelligence scores, Extraversion, Openness to experience, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness and there was a negative and statistically significant correlation between total psychological resilience scores and Neuroticism. There was a negative and statistically significant correlation between total emotional intelligence scores and Neuroticism, Extraversion and Openness to exprience. The findings were discussed in accordance with the literature.
