The i̇nvestigation of the association between serum semaphorin -3A value with clinic and laboratory parametres of psoriatic arthritis

Abstract (EN)

Introduction Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory joint disease which develops frequently in patients with psoriasis. Autoimmunity and inflammation are the leading pathogenetic mechanisms. The semaphorin family is a large group of proteins initially described as regulators of nervous system development. Studies have shown that semaphorins play a role in inflammation. Moreover, Sema 3A (Sema 3A) has previously been shown to be associated with inflammatory rheumatic diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate Sema 3A levels and to determine the factors associated with Sema 3A in PsA patients. Material and Methods Forty-one PsA patients who fulfilled the CASPAR criteria and 41 healthy controls matched by gender and age, were included in the study. ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate), CRP, BASDAI (Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index), DAS28 (Disease Activity Score-28), PASI (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index), PAQ (psoriasis and arthritis questionnaire) were used as indicators of disease activity, MSHS (Modified Sharp-van der Heijde score) was used as indicator of radiographic damage, SF-36 and HAQ (Health Assessment Questionnaire) scales were used as indicators of quality of life. Pain is expressed by 10-point VAS scale. Serum Sema 3A concentrations were detected by ELISA. Results The median Sema 3A level was 9.2 ng / ml in the PsA group and 13.2 ng / ml in the control group. Sema 3A levels were significantly lower in the PsA group than in the control group (p=0.030). Moreover, Sema 3A levels were higher in PsA patients under anti-TNF treatment (p=0.019). However, ESR (p=0.798), CRP (p=0.797), BASDAI (p=0.912), DAS28 (p=0.263), PASI (p=0.890), PAQ (p=0.401), VAS (p=0.857), MSHS (p=0.619), SF-36 and HAQ (p=0.333) scores did not correlate with Sema 3A in PsA patients. Conclusion The reduction of Sema 3A levels in PsA patients may contribute to pathogenesis of PsA. Anti-TNF treatment affects Sema 3A levels in PsA patients.
