Quality of life for type 2 diabetes mellitus patients attending primary health care centers in Kirkuk city

Introduction: Diabetes is one of the most common types in the world in general and in Iraq - and it accompanies the patient throughout his life. A relationship can be found between the quality of life of these patients with this disease. Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the quality of life of diabetics living in Kirkuk and the factors affecting it. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study. This study was carried out in primary care centers in Kirkuk, Iraq, from September 2021 to March 2022. The study sample consisted of 150 participants who fulfilled the criteria for participation in the study. It was collected using the Sociodemographic and Clinical Characteristics Model and the WHO Brief Quality of Life Scale format. Chi-square test and t-test were used in the statistical analysis of the study. Results: The majority of patients were 38.7% of age, with the highest mean distance psychological and social indicators 52.7 ± 13.8 the mean ındependence dimension score was 41.7 ± 11.8 he average physical indicator dimension was 38.1 ± 12.1 the average dimension was an environmental indicator 14.8 ± 3.8 the lowest mean spiritual dimension was 8.7 ± 6.2 A relationship was found between age and quality of life, p=.001*., a relationship between marital status and quality of life, p = 0.00 *relationship between income and quality of life p = 0.03* relationship between educational level and quality of life p = 0.00 * in addition to a relationship between occupation, residence, type of family and smoking and quality of life where p< 0.05 Recommendations:Increasing family awareness and providing appropriate family support in cooperation with the family in the care and treatment of the patient in order to improve the quality of life for the patient, conducting weekly or monthly special programs for DM2 patients, which increases the quality of life provided through these programs, conducting a psychological diagnosis for DM2 patients, and then appointing a psychiatric nurse To speak with a breast cancer patient, which increases her QOL.
