Özet (EN)
In our study in the penicillin-induced acute epilepsy model in rats in which oxygenation was achieved by increasing nasal cavity volumes with maxillary expansion (ME); TAS (Total Antioxidant) obtained from electrocorticography (ECoG) records and serum samples Level), TOS (Total Oxidant Level), OSI (Oxidant Level) we aimed to investigate the effect of ME on the pathophysiology of epilepsy by comparing IMA (Ischemia Modified Albumin) levels. At conditions of 12 hours of darkness-12 hours of brightness, 20-21°C, 55-60% of relative humidity, 36 adlibitum feeded Wistar Albino male breeds, each weighing 200-250 g, 8-10 weeks old, were collected. Each group consisting of 9 animals were formed in 4 groups (Control, Epilepsy, ME, ME+Epilepsy). On the first day of experiment we implemented ME appliance under xylazine/ketamine general anesthesia to two groups. On the 17th day, after taking basal records under urethane anesthesia for all the groups, we injected intracortical penicillin to Epilepsy with ME+Epilepsy group and physiological saline (SF) to the other two groups. We took ECoG records for 180 minutes, and sacrafied by puncture method. We checked TAS, TOS, IMA values from serums. For analysing ECoG records we used "LabChart8, ADInstrumentsPtyLtd, CastleHill, NSW, Australia" software program and for Statistical analyzes we used "IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 16" package program. While the avearage latency value in the ME+Epilepsy group was observed higher than the Epilepsy group, the spake wave numbers in the first 50 inutes and in the last 40 minutes and spike wave amplitudes in the first 120 minutes were observed to decrease. Whereas there are no significant statistical difference between the groups at TAS, TOS, IMA values, the OSI value in the Epilepsy group was observed lower, compared to the Control and ME groups. As a conclusion, we detected that ME increased the epileptic seizure threshold but reduced the seizure frequency and seizure severity under the penicilin induced acute epilepsy model.
