Abstract (EN)
Refik Halit Karay, -with the strength of observation he acquired both as literature man and journalist - reflects the conflicts had by women in their social life and spirits in his novels parallel to changes in society. In his novels, he takes up such topics as Women, sexuality, Honor, Religion, The desire for being admired, Sadism, The Mystery of Women and The need for Masochist Love, with regard to their clashing and fitting aspects of society. In addition, He includes some Popular Culture mediums like, Fashion, Cinema, Novels of love predominating the period during the time he lived into his novels. That he includes those popular culture mediums in frequent terms brings up the elements like ordinary lives of women and how the ruling culture guides them and appreciates the women according to the social class they belong to. In the result of that evaluation, He believes in development of society with effect of women of middle class not contradicting with the values of people in public. In his novels, Karay defends the marriages established with strength of love. In those marriages, he seeks for equality between the lover and loved. This equality is made up of the lovers? being intellectual, social, beauty and the mutuality of their characteristics. Some of the women in his novels do not look for that equality as they are under the influence of circumstances and their family. They will realize the value of real love after the mistaken marriage they had at the cost of luxurious life. They will pay for it either leading an unhappy marriage or having another affair with a man. When we consider the author?s novels in general, the women are seen in search for real love. They commit themselves to the man they love with a passionate love. They are challenging in order for getting the love they have targeted. From the beginning to the end of the novels some women captivate the men they love playing up in different personality, lying, confusing and using their sexuality against them. In the end the women having contradiction with society rearrange their life getting married to an older man. Thus, They experience the welfare of returning to the life they once broke off. Yet, Some are still ideal of men with their ties to traditions and coherent conducts. For those reasons, Refik Halit puts forward love as medium women use to return back their ordinary lives off which they broke with the westernization process. In Conclusion, Refik Halit Karay, focused the changes of society experienced with westernization process on the women and explained the change the women had on the basis of men ? women relationship regarding sociologic and psychological components.
