Özet (EN)
In curent study which aimed to determine if individuals with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have elevated inflammatory or antioxidant markers. The study was carried out between January to April 2021 in teaching hospitals and private clinics in Iraq. The study included 81 patients previously diagnosed with RA and 50 healthy controls (HCS). All participants underwent tests for the Biochemical Parameters which are: Adiponectin (ADP), Malondialdehyde (MDA), Protein carbonyls (PC), Catalase (CAT), and Superoxide dismutase (SOD). The results showed that there were significant increased in comparison between RA patients and HCS in ADP, MDA, and PC. while there were significant decreased in CAT and SOD concentrations. The ROC curve showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of ADP and MDA was very high. while the AUC of PC and SOD was fair and the AUC of CAT was poor. The study concluded that there were no effects of age, gender, and BMI on the studied parameters. Low levels of antioxidants can lead to elevate the levels of oxidative stress and this elevated may be related to an increase in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). ADP and MDA is an excellent prognostic indicator for RA. PC and SOD can considered a fair prognostic indicator. CAT is a poor prognostic indicator for RA.
