Detection of genotoxic effects of Sabinene using RAPD/PCR method

Abstract (EN)

In the present study, the genotoxic effects of sabinene were investigated in human lymphocytes treated with 13, 26 and 52 µg/ml concentrations for 24 and 48 hours treatment periods. The genotoxicity of sabinene was examined by using Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA marker system. For this study, 10 primers consist of 10-mer designed randomly were used.Sabinene changed the number of new bands when compared with untreated control while it did not change the new band profile when compared with DMSO control. At the highest concentration (52 µg/ml) for 48 hours treatment period, sabinene significantly induced the new bands when compared with both untreated and DMSO controls. Therefore, it could be concluded that sabinene had no genotoxic effect at lower concentrations, in contrast sabinene might be poses a genotoxic risk when used at the higher concentrations.
