Investigation of the relationship between compulsory organizational citizenship behaviors and burnout of healthcare professionals: A hospital example

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between the compulsory organizational citizenship behaviors that health workers are exposed to and their burnout. The descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted in a private hospital with 105 healthcare professionals who volunteered to participate in the study. Data were collected using Descriptive Information Form, Compulsory Citizenship Behavior Scale, Maslach Burnout Scale. SPSS (IBM SPSS Statistics 27) program was used in the analysis of the data. Frequency tables and descriptive statistics were used to interpret the findings. It was determined that 28.6% of the participants were 35 years/over, 63.8% were female, 54.3% were single, 43.8% were associate degree graduates, 35.2% were nurses, 22.9% worked in surgical units, and 46.7% had a total working time of 5 years/under. Men's personal achievement scores, which are sub-dimensions of burnout, are significantly higher than those who work in the unit for 6-9 years, those who work in the unit for 6-9 years, and those who work in the unit for less than 1 year. Those who are not satisfied with their job, who do not feel belonging to the institution they are in, and who do not receive institutional support have significantly higher scores on the Compulsory Citizenship Behavior Scale - Total. It has been observed that having a say in the work environment, loving the profession and thinking that it contributes to the profession creates a significant difference in the scores of depersonalization, which is a sub-dimension of burnout. A positive, weak and significant relationship was found between emotional exhaustion and compulsory citizenship scale emotional and Compulsory Citizenship Behavior Scale-Total scores (p<0.005). The mean score of the Healthcare Professionals' Compulsory Citizenship Scale is 4.0±0.77, the emotional sub-dimension mean score is 3.84±0.91, and the cognitive sub-dimension mean score is 4.17±0.82. Accordingly, it has been determined that the level of compulsory citizenship behavior of health workers is high.
