Cinema and painting as artistic expressions

In this thesis, the art of cinema and the art of painting, which are two different diciplines in terms of content, are discussed. This thesis started with the emergence of the first motion Picture, which is the beginning stage of the art of cinema. With the first films not to exceed 10 minutes, films about time duration were produced in the following years.The directors have sought different pursuits in the cinema, where the time is unlimited. In the thesis, it is stated what the art of cinema corresponds to the art of painting in the history of art. As aa result of the relationship between these two branches of art and the examination of the Works, personal studies have been contributed.Within the scope of this thesis, the relationship between art films and painting from the modern art period to the present deal with. Through independent movies, the style and storyboards of the directors were examined and their place in the context of art was criticised. Afterwards, the transfer of the stylistic values of the storyboards to the cinema deal with. In addition to the referances they gave to the history of art, the directors produced new works with the cinema technique. It has been revealed that the directors have discussed in the context of the thesis also give direction to wold cinema with the techniques they find unique to themselves. This thesis focuses on the common tragedies that keep successful directors strong to reveal their work. At the same time, the focus is on the concept of image in cinema and painting. The meaning changes of the image over time are discussed. The cinematographies of the light, color, shadow and compositions used in the scenes of the cinema art were examined and how a visual connection could be established with the art movements was examined. One of the main directors who ensure the integrity of the connection between the image and the film used fort he narrative language of cinema; studies have been made based on the films of Andrey Tarkovsky, Akira Kurosawa and Alfred Joseph Hitchcock. First of all, the biographies of the artists were emphasized and then their masterpieces and Works were axamined. As a result of the fact that the artists whose biographies are discussed are original directors, it has been determined that they have common aspects and analyzes have been made on this. Literature scanning method was used in the research. Printed and electronic sources were used. Artist websites, museum and gallery websites were examined.
