Assesment of antioxidant and antiapoptotic effects of propolis against cisplatin induced testis damage in rats

In the world, the ratio of the couples inability to have children (infertility) is close to about 20% and this is also one of today's biggest problem. According to Ministry of Health data can not have two million pairs of children in Turkey. Couples will explain the cause of the inability to have a child found in a large part of the reason is unable to enter the group described in approximately 15%. Cisplatin, various genitourinary prescribed the most effective and widely used anti-cancer drugs are for the treatment of tumors. But toxic effects on the body are still not known clearly. Propolis honey bees by trees and cones in the bark of the plant oils collected from various buds and sprouts, pollen, bee products consisting of a mixture of special resins and waxy substances. Their antioxidant affect shown with studies on various organ systems. We aim to investigate antioxidant and antiapoptotic effects of propolis against cisplatin induced testis damage. In this study that we have done, we vere intended to research the antioxidant and antiapoptotic properties of propolis against cisplatin induced testicular damage. Fourteen days was determined as the total time of experiment. In this expermient thirty six male Sprague Dawley rats were used. They were divided into six groups of six rats. Rats of control group will be injected intraperitoneally (ip) at a dose of saline with a single injection. Just for the first day of the experiment, 7 mg/kg of cisplatin were injected intraperitoneally (i.p) with a single injection to the rats of cisplatin group. Propolis groups (propolis 50 mg/kg and propolis 100 mg/kg), were given by gavage of the propolis 50 mg / kg and propolis 100 mg / kg during the 14 days.The rats of treatment groups (sisplatin + propolis 50 mg/kg and sisplatin + propolis 100 mg/kg), were injected with 7 mg/kg of cisplatin on the first day of the study and propolis were given by gavage for fourteen days. At the end of the fourteen -day experiment, testicles with epididiymis of the rats were taken out and were sacrified with the method of making bloodless. One of the each pair of the testicles were divided into two pieces and one of them were used for histological processes. The other half and blood serum were used for biochemical analyses.
