School administrators proficiency in strategic planning

Organizations need a period of time of adaptation as they change. It is urgent for them to harmonize with the environmental conditions changing rapidly, regarding their own drives. It seems inevitable that in order to make an achievement, organizations should take into consideration a future plan according to their both weak and strong sides. Some improvements and changes in education in recent years are forcing the schools administrative to make changes accordingly. In this respect their success depends on a good strategic planning. As School administration is in charge of school's strategic planning their attitudes are extremely important. In the first chapter of the study, how the administration is evolving and what theories in the field are developing and the conceptual approaches on strategic thinking and planning of the organizations struggling against the challenges by the recent scientific and technological developments, are examined. In this content, the basic components of strategic planning including the mainly proposed approaches in the field are revealed. Accomplishing an effective strategic planning in schools is related to the presence of administrative proficiency in strategic planning. In the second chapter, the main problematic issue of "Strategic Planning in Schools", which sets the discourse of the study, is the proficiency of school administration. The aim of the study is to analyze the proficiency, knowledge, and abilities of school administration. A descriptive survey is used to achieve this. The universe of the study is 62 of the schools in Trabzon, in the second term of 2015-16 academic years. As a data collection device, "A survey at perception of Strategic Planning in Schools" by Ayrancı, 2013, is carried out of 153 individuals. The survey also reveals that the school administrators support the strategic planning in schools, it is recommended that they need an in-service training as consequence of the fact that they don't have information about it.
