Government officers of hejaz working in the ottoman state according to the Sicil-i Ahval Registers

The tradition of keeping the biography records of civil servants in the Ottoman bureaucracy, started during the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid II. In this context, the Sicill-i Ahval Commission was established and the CVs of the civil servants were recorded in the Sicill-i Ahval Books. These records, covering the years 1879-1909, can provide important clues about the socio-cultural and socio-economic structure of the Ottoman Empire. In this study, some evaluations were made by examining the biographies of 196 Hijaz-born civil servants registered in the Sicill-i Ahvâl Registers in the Ottoman Archives. In this framework, determinations were made about the name, father's name, nickname, the duties they received, the rewards and punishments, the amount of salaries, the schools they were educated in and their educational status, language information, the age of starting their duties, and the places they worked. Civil servants were evaluated in terms of their profession by dividing them into different fields of employment such as education, health and management. The arms and medals awarded for their achievements were discussed, as well as the punishments given for the crimes committed.
