Color in cinema is an aesthetic, symbolic and narrative element. For this purpose, it is thought out, transformed, even manipulated, through our tools linked to the production of cinematographic images, from filming to post-production. It is necessary to master and understand the influence of colors on the human mood. Wes Anderson's films are an intriguing case study in the use of representation and visual language as elements capable of executing the film plot's narrative. His films are built using a logic comparable to that of architectural representations. Geometries, perspectives, textures, and colors are used to create a code of signals capable of mediating between the comprehensible and the sensitive, between the concept and the image. This thesis offers a reflection on how colors impact the audience's mood, also on our way of perceiving, and talking about color. An analysis of Wes Anderson's famous films The Budapest Hotel 2014 and Moonrise Kingdom 2012 to see how the used color palettes helps in the narration of the story therefore impacting the feelings of the viewers. This thesis questions our way of perceiving colors that we see on screen. In this approach, knowing the history of colors, its scientific base, and the psychology of colors allows better understanding for the project. The twofold register of analysis utilized for Anderson's films might become a trace of a generic technique of analysis, applicable not just to other filmmakers' works, but also to other types of visual narrative.
