II ABSTRACT MASTERS THESIS THE INVESTIGATION OF USING SIVAS IRON-STEEL FACTORY'S SLAG IN ROAD STABILIATION Mustafa Ethem KİZİRGİL Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department Civil Engineering 2001, Page: 47 In this study, the waste slag at the iron-steel factories was investigated to use on road stabilization. Slag is a waste material which is obtained during the production of hot mine in blast furnaces. The small part of slag is used as granule. The rest are stored as waste material. Soil-cement stabilization, is compress soil by mixing at a certain rate cement until the max density is operated with optimum water rate before stiffen is started. Many experiments were made with the mixture of soil- cement-slag, soil- cement and soil taken from the foundation of a building at the University campus. As a result, it was found that when the cement was added to soil, the strength of soil was increased, and also when a small amount in of slag was used place of cement, a close strength would be obtained. According to the economic analysis, the necessary strengths could be gained more economically by this way. Key Words: Slag, Stabilization, Soil.
