Political, religious, educational and socio-cultural aspects of Cerîde-i Sûfiyye journal

This study aims to examine the approaches of the Ottoman society to social life and religious issues between 1908 and 1920 through the views of the members of the sect and lodge, which are among the basic dynamics of the Ottoman social structure. In this study, the views of the members of the sect and the dervish lodge, these people's were conveyed through the articles that they wrote in the C.S. jour nal. The pious writers of Ceridiye, a mystical journal, referred to the social, political and economic conditions of the 19th century Ottoman structure in their writings. Many developments such as the evaluations on the East and the West, the perception of women in the period, womens of clothing about ideas and the world views that differed with these changes were discussed in Ceridiyye Magazine. In addition to these, religious conflicts brought about by the changing social life are among the important issu es that Ceridiye Magazine deals with. In this study, a general evaluation of these issues is made. In the 19th century, studies in the religious field have an important place in terms of defining and comprehending the changing Ottoman social dynamics. In t his direction, Ceridiye Magazine has been an important tool in the transfer of traditional social and religious culture to the society after 1908. As against other religious journals of the period, Cerîde i Sûfiyye journal (1909 1919) differs in that it ha s a long lasting publication life. While the studies that about the journal have pointed out mainly to the literary and mystical aspects of the journal, on the other hand the magazine's social and religious aspect relatively is neglect. In this thesis, it is aimed to fill the gaps in this field. In addition, with this study, many shadowy articles of many respected writers who wrote in Ceridiye Magazine were also brought to light.
