The phenomenon of solastalgia and visual analyses

This art competency study not only represents the concept of solastalgia but has been conceived as an experimental research process that reconfigures it from formal, conceptual, and technological perspectives. In this thesis, solastalgia is addressed through the traces left in individual and collective memory by environmental destruction and the spatial losses that follow disasters. The study is structured with an interdisciplinary approach. Traditional painting techniques are combined interactively with artificial intelligence, video installation, augmented reality, and new media tools. This production language has provided a critical visual discourse on phenomena such as trauma, memory, displacement, and environmental injustice. Art has been positioned in this process as a critical research method. Technological possibilities, integrated with ethical and political sensitivities, have transformed into multi-layered narratives. The spatial and emotional dimensions of post-disaster experiences have been reimagined through AI-supported images and sound data. Thus, an interaction has been established with the audience on temporal, sensory, and conceptual levels. Conceptual analyses of works by international artists have added theoretical depth to the creative process. Projects such as "Solastalgia; The Cadastre of Disruption" have combined the archival, testimonial, and aesthetic aspects of this process, proposing an alternative visual narrative. These productions have broadened the methodological horizon of the research in art competency by incorporating critical, experiential, and visual modes of thought. The thesis aims to open new epistemological fields by merging the concept of solastalgia with art. It proposes a conceptual threshold in contemporary art by relating visual arts to social memory, digital ethics, and environmental fractures. Additionally, this thesis has restructured the relationship with the audience in contemporary visual arts on sensory, cognitive, and conceptual levels through its interactive and engaging presentation format. In this context, the study has made an innovative and original contribution to the practice of artistic research.
