The effects of creative drama programme, applied to the students with social skills deficiencies and to their mothers, on devolopment of students level of social skills.

The effects of the creative drama activities, applied to a group of children, having social skill problems and to their mothers, on the development of children social skill levels was studied in this research. The research group was formed according to the results of sociometry, applied to three fifth grade classes ( each class consists of 40 students) from a primary school which has a low socio-economic background. Twenty volunteer students and nine volunteer mothers participated the research. Sociometry test, Walker- McConnell Social Efficiency and School Adaptation Scale, Semi-constructed interview forms, and personal information forms which are prepared by the researcher to get information about students? personal and parental characteristics, were used to collect data in the research. In this experimental research controlled pre and post test design was used. The students in the control and experiment groups were matched considering their similar socio ? economic levels and their genders. The same creative drama activities were applied to both students and their mothers in the experiment group. The drama activities applied to the mothers were expected to be a reinforcement for the behaviors that the children learned during the drama courses. The qualitative and the quantitative data were classified according to the aims of the research. Content anaylsis was made for the qualitative data. By defining general meaning groups and themes from these qualitative data, the frequency of these results were examined in the interviews. The results were described as percentage and frequency. Quantitative data were assessed with the SPSS programme. While assessing the data, to identify the equality between the pre test points of control group and the experiment group and to identify the difference between the post test points, Mann- Whitney U Test was used. In order to find the difference between pre test and post test points of control and experiment group Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test was used. To identify the relationship between scales correlation coefficiency was estimated. ii The results of the research is that, according to the results of children?s sociometry points about play; although after drama courses there is a significant difference at the points of experiment group, there isn?t a significant difference at the points of control group. According to the results of children?s sociometry points about lessons, after drama courses there isn?t a significant difference between the points of control group and experiment group. According to the students? total points of WMC-SESAS, the students? total points of WMC-SESAS on the teacher prefered social behaviors, the students? total points of WMC-SESAS on the peer prefered social behaviors and the students? total points of WMC-SESAS on school adaptation behaviors although after drama courses there is a significant difference at the points of experiment group, there isn?t a significant difference at the points of control group.
