Analysis of social studies and classroom teachers'attitudes towards multicultural education

The main purpose of this study is to analyse the views of social studies and classroom teachers about multicultural education and their attitudes towards multicultural education in terms of different variables. The research was conducted in the 2018-2019 academic year. The working group of the research consists of social studies and classroom teachers who work in the central districts of Erzurum province. The study was designed according to the mixed method approach in which both quantitative and qualitative research methods are used together. Quantitative data were collected with the "Multicultural Education Attitude Scale of Teachers" test. The qualitative data of the research were collected by a semi-structured interview form.The analysis of the quantitative data used in the research was analyzed with the statistical program for Social Studies. (SPSS).qualitative data were subjected to descriptive analysis. In the descriptive analysis, the data were classified and explained under certain themes. According to the quantitative results of the research, it was stated that the views of social studies and classroom teachers about multicultural education were more positive. According to the qualitative results of the study, it has been observed that social studies and classroom teachers have various prejudices and lack of knowledge about multicultural education.Considering the results achieved, it may be suggested to inform teachers in the form of seminars or a separate course on multiculturalism and multicultural education
