The effects of social capital on job satisfaction of high school teachers (Sample of Tokat city)

This study was aimed to determine the effects of social capital on the job satisfaction of high school teachers. The research was designed and applied in relational data model.The research was executed on population. The population of the study consist of 601 teachers in 16 high school and the scaling packages were send out this teachers. It was filled in 319 scaling packages in confidental and correct ways. Therefore research data were evaluated by 319 scaling package data.The ?Social Capital Scale? was developed by researcher and ?Job Satisfaction Scale? was developed Gençer (2002) were used to gather the data in this research. The high schools? social capital and job satisfaction levels were analyzed using frequency, percentage and mean. The independent and dependent sample t test and one way Anova technics were used for determining whether this levels were varied according to branches, seniorities and genders. The pearson moments coefficient of correlation analyze was used for determining relationship between social capital and job satisfaction.The findings of the research showed that there was over middle level social capital of schools and this levels didn?t vary teachers?gender. Social capital was perceived more positive for some branches? teachers than others. While the social capital total and its factors were meaning differences according to secondary school types and branches, it was not meaning differences according to seniorites, genders and academic backgrounds. As another result, the teachers? job satisfaction expectation levels were high and job satisfaction realization levels were low.Finally, there was positive, high level and meaningful relationship between the teachers? job satisfaction and schools? social capitals, so when social capital improved the job satisfaction improved too.Key Words: Social capital, trust, networks, norms, education, job satisfaction
