Özet (EN)

As for being one of the major types of communication, nonverbal communication involves all the forms of communication other than speaking or words. An individual communicates with his/her environment since being an embryo and performs this by means of nonverbal cues. Using nonverbal cues lasts throughout the life. Reading and emitting nonverbal cues is one of the primary components of social competence. This ability can be both acquired through the growing period in the family climate and thought in the childhood and adolescent. In this study by revising the discipline both old and new studies has been summarized. At the research faze the adolescents, who are living in two different provinces and differentiate each other by their family cultures and sociocultural construct, are tested to be measured for nonverbal sign knowledge. At the end of the study it has been stated that the adolescents who live at the East of Anatolia have more nonverbal cue knowledge than the peers live in Istanbul and there is an opposite relation by the education level of the adolescents' parents and their nonverbal cue knowledge.
