The effect of digitalization level on academic performance of academicians working in the field of sports sciences

Nowadays, it is obvious that the concept of digitalization affects our lives in every field. It plays an active role in every aspect of human life from 7 to 70. Thanks to digital training, digital exams, digital books, and scientific articles prepared in a digital environment, advances are made in education and science. Since it is thought that the promotion of academicians in the title and the facilitation of access to information in digital environments with the help of technology in the scientific work processes positively affect academic performance, it is aimed to examine the effect of digitalization levels on academicians in state universities providing education in the field of sports in Turkey on their academic performance. The universe of our research consists of 2166 academicians who provide education in the field of sports in state universities in Turkey and 511 academicians constitute the sample. The participants used a Personal information form of 6 questions (Age, Gender, Marital Status, Title, Study Year, and Daily Technological Device Use Time) and an academician digitalization scale, and an academic performance perception scale. The obtained data were transferred to the SPSS 22.00 program and the percentage and frequency values of the variables determined in line with the study were determined. Independent samples t-test and one-way variance (ANOVA) test were used for the analysis of the data. Pearson correlation test was used to determine the relationship between the academician digitalization scale and the academic performance perception scale. A linear regression test was used to determine the effect between the scales. In the statistical analysis, the significance level was accepted as p<0.05 to determine the difference between the groups. Academicians who provide education in the field of sports; While a statistically significant difference was detected between the variables of age, title, the working year, and daily digital device usage time with the academic performance perception scale, no significant difference was detected in terms of gender and marital status variables. While a statistically significant difference was found between the variables of age, marital status, the working year, and daily digital device usage time with the academician digitalization scale, no significant difference was found in terms of gender and title variables. In addition, as a result of the Pearson correlation analysis, it is seen that there is a positive and significant relationship between the academic performance perception scale of the academicians participating in the study and the academician digitalization scale. According to the linear regression test, it was determined that the digitalization levels of the academicians positively affected their academic performance levels of the academicians.
