This research examines the effects of work stress and work family balance on work satisfaction in the context of Nigerian universities. Most of the previous studies have limited evaluations on these variables clearly and simultaneously. The study involved a comprehensive survey of 18 different universities, aiming to discern the effects of work stress and work family balance on work satisfaction. Through a structured questionnaire method, a total of 1200 questionnaires were distributed among university employees. 901 questionnaires were returned, yielding a response rate of 75.08 %. The study employed statistical techniques, including Independent Samples T-Test, ANOVA, LSD tests, correlation analysis, and regression analysis, to scrutinize the relationships and dependencies between the variables of interest. Statistical package of social sciences (SPSS25) was utilized for data analysis. The results of the Independent Samples T-Test unveiled significant variations in work satisfaction between the gender groups. Additionally, the ANOVA and LSD tests offered valuable insights into the differences in work satisfaction across demographic factors. Furthermore, correlation analysis unveiled a negative relationship between work stress and work satisfaction, while a positive correlation emerged between work family balance and work satisfaction. The results of the regression analysis prove that work stress affects work satisfaction negatively and work family balance affects work satisfaction positively. This study delivers valuable insight for employers, human resource practitioners, government, readers and policy makers who are concerned with the factors that contribute to work satisfaction of employees.
