Criteria that determine color preferences in design and an evaluation on the priorities of these criteria within the scope of space design

In every area of our lives, there are elements that direct us, activate our emotions and manage our perceptions, whether we are aware of it or not. One of the most important of these is color. Colors are used in many fields of our daily life such as visual arts, fashion, design, architecture, psychology and marketing. Colors have a great impact on us, shaping our actions and emotions. The effects of colors on users depend on many parameters. These parameters differ depending on the area where the colors are used. In this study, it is aimed to reveal which variables should be handled by the designer while choosing colors and to express these variables with a new classification in order to create the desired perception of colors through the discipline of space design, to reveal the desired emotions in users and to direct their actions in the intended direction. In this context, first of all, the studies on the color selection criteria were examined and how the criteria were classified in these studies was examined in the first chapter. In the second part, the concepts of space and color in space are explained, the importance of color selection in space is emphasized, and a unique classification system is put forward by synthesizing and interpreting the classification methods revealed by the literature studies. In the third chapter, how all the criteria in this classification system affect the choice of color in space design is explained one by one through the information obtained from the literature studies. In the fourth chapter, the priorities of the criteria were determined with a study conducted within the scope of the "Color Theory and Applications" course which is coded "ICT398" in the curriculum of Altınbaş University, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design.
