The problem of using the sources of the People of the Book in tafsir

One of the most important aspects of the interpretation of the Qur'an has been the diversity of the sources used. The situation of interpreting the Qur'an with sources other than the Qur'an and the Sunnah has brought different ideas and attitudes among the commentators from the first periods to the present. These sources, which are known to belong to Jews and Christians, whose source and accuracy cannot be determined, which are included in tafsir through interaction and narration, and which we will refer to as "resources of the People of the Book" in our study, have been subjected to harsh criticism until the last period of tafsir. On the other hand, it has been seen that it is used a lot. The change in the perspectives of the commentators of the period on the Qur'an, tafsir, events, history and knowledge, and these different attitudes according to the subject of the verses, turned the situation of using the sources of the People of the Book in tafsir into a problem. Our study includes the viewpoint of the later, the contractor and the last period commentators on the knowledge of the People of the Book, the possible reasons for the change and some examples according to their subjects
