Abstract (EN)

Habitual abortion in its broadest definition is defined as 2 to 3 or more consecutive pregnancy losses before 20 weeks of gestation. Chromosomal abnormalities, uterine malformations, and antiphospholipid syndrome are the three generally accepted etiologies of recurrent miscarriages. Currently evidence is insufficient to support routine evaluation of other causes, including hormonal abnormalities, infection, systemic disease, environmental agents, and alloimmune factors. In this study; 30 women whom have 2 to 3 or more consecutive pregnancy losses before 20 weeks of gestation and 30 women who had not experienced any pregnancy loss were compared for total antioxidants levels (TAS), total oxidants level (TOS) and oxidative stres index (OSI) values. None of the women had systemic disease and they don?t smoke. Both groups are homogeneous for age and gestational weeks.Control group total antioxidant levels were higher than the other group.Control group total oxidant levels and oxidative stres index were lower than the other group. We may conclude that the decrease of TAS and increase of TOS and OSI could be the reason for the abortion. Further studies are needed to elucidate this kind of a relationship. Keywords: Habitual abortion, Total oxidant levels, Total antioxidant levels, Oxidative stress index.
