The effect of lack of vitamin D in etiopathogenesis of the type-1 and type-2 patients with diabetes mellitus

Abstract (EN)

In this study, we aimed to search possible molecular mechanisms and the effect of lack of vitamin D in etiopathogenesis of the type-1 and type-2 patients with diabetes mellitus in our region. 30 type-1 diabetic patients and 30 type-2 diabetic patients, 18-65 years old with anti-GAD and/or ICA auto antibodies (according to ADA 2003 criteria), who were followed and treated between April 2010 and September 2010 in Endocrinologic Policlinic of Dicle University Medical Faculty were admitted to the study. The blood taken from the patients was analyzed for Anti-GAD, Islet cell antibody (ICA), HbA1c, c-peptide, D vitamin (25(OH) colecalciferol, parathormone and Cytokines. A statistically meaningful difference was found between Type1 DM, Type2 DM and control group in terms of HbA1c parameter. (P<0,001). A statistically meaningful difference was found in terms of C-peptide(P<0,001). A statistically meaningful difference was found in terms of D vitamin parameter(P<0,001).After we had compared Serum D vitamin parameter Type1 DM-Control group and Type2 DM and Control group, we found out a statistically meaningful difference (P<0,001), (P<0,05). As comparing parathormone parameter Type1 DM with control group, we found out a statististically meaningful difference (P<0,05).After comparing Type2 DM with Control group, we didn?t find any statististically meaningful difference (P>0,05). As comparing C-peptide parameter Type1 DM with Control group, we found out a statististically meaningful difference (P<0,001). After comparing Type2 DM with Control group, we didn?t find any statistically meaningful difference (P>0,05).A statistically meaningful difference was found between Type1 DM, Type2 DM and Control group in terms of IL-2R parameter. Having compared IL-2R parameter with Type1 DM - Control group, we found out a statistically meaningful difference (P<0,001). Upon comparing Type2 DM with Control group, we didn?t find any statistically meaningful difference (P>0,05). There is no statistically meaningful difference in terms of IL-6 parameter (P>0,05). There is statistically meaningful difference in terms of TNF-? parameter(P<0,001). Having compared TNF-? parameter Type1 DM- Control group with Type2 DM with Control group we found out a statistically meaningful difference (P<0,001).Key words: Typ1 Diabetes Mellitus, Type2 Diabetes Mellitus, 25 (OH) Cholecalsiferol, Cytokines
