Abstract (EN)
Throughout human history, theater has been a powerful art form that reflects human emotions, thoughts, and social realities. Live performances on stage transport the audience to different worlds, providing them with unforgettable experiences. Theater has not only served as a means of entertainment but also as a tool for criticizing and reflecting on social issues and inspiring change. Cinema, emerging in the late 19th century, quickly gained immense popularity as an art form. Constantly evolving with technological advancements, cinema utilizes the power of visual and auditory storytelling to transport viewers to different worlds and offer them memorable experiences. Similar to theater, cinema serves not only as entertainment but also as a medium for criticizing, reflecting on, and inspiring change in response to social issues. Despite their distinct forms of expression, theater and cinema serve common purposes, such as reflecting the human experience and impacting the audience. The interaction between these two art forms becomes even more pronounced through the adaptation of theatrical plays into films. Adaptation processes prompt contemplation on how a theatrical play can be transformed into a cinematic language and the artistic and cultural implications of this transformation. This study examines the adaptation of Dušan Kovačević's play "Profesional" into a film. Both as a play and a film, "Profesional" employs dark humor to address the political and social turmoil of Yugoslavia's final years. This thesis aims to analyze the artistic and technical aspects of the adaptation of "Profesional" for the screen. Through this analysis, a deeper understanding of the expressive forms of both theater and cinema, as well as the relationship and interaction between these two art forms, will be achieved. Additionally, by revealing the transformations that occur during the adaptation process and their artistic and cultural impacts, this study aims to offer a fresh perspective on the concept of adaptation.
