Tolga Karaçelik the indicative analysis of "Sarmaşık" film

All communities which lived together on the same piece of land and which cooperated to ensure their basic interests throughout the history have become debatable over different concepts based on superior-subordinate relationships, pressure authorities, hegemony, banning, punishment, authoritative attitude in addition to hierarchical bonds. In the hierarchical order, there are powers within different clusters who administrate the communities constituting the society. The world order is maintained through those managing and being managed. These concepts which influence the lives and living styles of the people who maintain their lives within the society have turned into a reality covering the area of interest of cinema industry. When the movie Sarmaşık (Ivy) directed and written by Tolga Karaçelik is reviewed in terms of its scenario, it is a movie in which power, pressure authority and authoritative manners concepts spring to life over different characters played by six actors who are attached to different opinions and ideas. The incidents which occur in a freighter used for international commercial transportation of goods is in form of a country allegory expressed by the individual characteristics of the persona. The messages are attempted to be conveyed to the audience in the movie over metaphors and symbols. These symbols and metaphors carry the movie to a surrealistic dimension. In the dissertation, the fact of power, how does it appear and what kind of relations are established, how do the managed communities within the society react before authority and the resulting behaviors are analyzed from the story of the Sarmaşık (Ivy) movie. In other words, the behaviors of the communities indicated as "others" before the authority are semiologicaly analyzed in form of "national allegory".
