Abstract (EN)

Background and objective: Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease with high prevalence, which may be diagnosed in any person of any profession in population. Cardinal clinical findings include tremor, bradykinesia, and rigidity. IPD has a wide range of symptoms, including motor and non-motor symptoms. In this study, we aimed to make the staging of tremor-dominant and bradykinesia-dominant Parkinson's patients with new UPRDS and to reveal its relationship with cognition and quality of life. Materials and methods: Sixty patients, mostly men, were included in the study, and clinical symptoms, cognition, and quality of life values were evaluated via various scales for Parkinson's disease. When evaluating the patients, we established subtypes based on predominant clinical subtyping (as tremor predominant and bradykinesia predominant cases) and also based on the severity of motor and non-motor findings, afterwords we evaluated the relationship between the degree of motor and non-motor symptoms and cognition and quality of life. Results: According to our study, motor, non-motor findings and cognition, and quality of life status did not differ between IPD between clinical dominant subtypes. We found that as the severity of motor findings of the patients increased, cognition, and quality of life deteriorated. Conclusion: Because cognition and quality of life significantly affect the disability of PD patients, it is essential to early predict the possible impairment in cognition and to identify the risk groups that will impair the quality of life.
