Abstract (EN)

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical and radiological findings and complications of children followed-up with TSC diagnosis, to explore the connections between them and compare with information in literature. Material and Method: 63 TSC diagnosed patients regularly followed-up in Children Neurology Polyclinic between May 2015 and May 2017 were included in this study. Missing file information was completed for the 37 patients coming to the hospital after our call. Information available in our records for the remaining 26 patients was evaluated. Result: Age median was 14 for the cases and 32 of the cases were female (5.8%) and 31 were male (49.2%), 12 were hereditary (19%) and 51 had sporadic heritance (80.9%). In the clinical and radiological evaluation of the patients, a significant relation was detected between the tuber count in MRG and previous infantile spasm, epileptic refractory and mental retardation were also present (p<0.05). 58 patients had epilepsy (93.5%) and 27 of the epilepsy patients (48.2%) had refractory and 9 had infantile spasm story (18.3%). The most common hospital referral cause was seizure (53 patients, 84.3%). 25 of the patients had autism (45.5%). A significant relation was detected among autism and infantile spasm, tuber count in MRG, refractory and mental retardation (p<0.05). It was observed that seizure control was more difficult in patients with earlier seizure starting age and tuber count was higher in MRG (p<0.05). A significant relation was found in hypertension presence in angiomyolipoma patients in abdominal USG (p<0.05). Conclusion: High tuber count in TSC patients, autism, infantile spasm story, early seizure starting age and mental retardation presence can be stated as negative prognostic factors adversely effecting the quality of life.
