Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study, which is dealt with in two stages; is to determine the tradition of telling fairy tales in the province of Tunceli, to determine the present situation of this tradition and to compile the oral tales that have been told in the region for centuries and to transfer them to new generations. The studies on the oral narratives of the Tunceli region, which has a rich folklore, have been conducted in a limited number and within a narrow framework. In this study, which was determined after the lack of academic studies for the determination of folk narratives and performance environments of Tunceli province, the fairy tale products were compiled with the Field Research Method applied in the compilation and examination of folklore products. After analyzing the tale texts compiled according to Stith Thompson's "Motif Index of Folk-Literature catalog, their formal structures were determined and their social functions were transferred. As a result of our analysis, it was found that the fairy tales of the region, which have a long plot, are rich in motifs. In the fairy tales we have compiled, it has been seen that there are motifs according to all the titles in the Motif Index of Folk-Literature and many motifs that are not in the Motif Index have been identified. These motifs reveal the original structure of the fairy tales of Tunceli. The fairy tales of the region, which is also very rich in terms of its formal structure, have various social functions and give various values to the audience in the performance environment. Today, the tradition of telling stories in Tunceli is still alive. Source persons, who are over a certain age, remember the tales they have heard before and perform them skillfully. However, the fact that the mass media reach every home, the difference between the urban and rural areas, the migration to the outside and the loss of life of fairy-tale narrators have a negative effect on this tradition. As a result of the interviews we conducted in Tunceli province and districts, 122 fairy tales were recorded. This result, which we have reached in the region where the tradition of telling fairy tales is strong but started to weaken as a result of various developments, is promising. With the new compilation studies to be done, the verbal narrative culture of the region should be saved and kept alive. Key Words: Tunceli, Fairy Tale, Folklore, Review
