Abstract (EN)
Tour guides, known as tourism professionals, have to undertake many professional roles in order to complete the organized tour successfully. In organized tours, which is naturally reflected like a classroom environment, the role of tour guides comes to the fore as information transmitter and teacher. In this context, novels used in history teaching can be evaluated among numerous information sources for tour guides. In this study, the novel 'Yaban', written by Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu, was analyzed with a geography-centered reading method in order to enrich the information and narrative resources of tour guides. According to the findings, difficult conditions prevailed in the village where the events took place during the National Struggle Period. Economic activities are limited. There are distrust and fear against the government among the village people. While the villagers, who are not in the unity of the nation, are prejudiced against the National Struggle and Mustafa Kemal, they evaluate the invading of Greeks as saviors. For this reason, it can be stated that the National Struggle is carried out not only against the enemy, but also against the deprivations of the Anatolian countryside, where the Government does not provide services and the necessary effort is not made for development.
