Islamic elements in turkish folk narratives and syncretism

Erzincan is a city with a lot of tombs, shrines and people visiting for religious reasons. However, until this time, the places to visit in Erzincan have not been researched and evaluated as a whole. When evaluating, adata collection method has been used in the area. The research contains 65 visited places and the knowledge of 50 source persons in the city center and surrounding districts of Erzincan. As a result of the study, it has been shown that the practices seen in the visited places are closely related to the elements such as fire, tree, water, mountain, Hill etc.in theTurkish belief system. While examining the connection between the Turkish belief systemand thepractices seen in these places, it also has been observed that these practices are applied with lack of resources and causes by local visitors. In addition to this, the study also shows that one of the primary reasons for the visitors to go to these tombs is their belief in miraculous works of the saintly people. In a separate section of the study there is a table showing the reasons for people attending the tombs and their behavior whilst they are there, as well as all miraculous works of the related Saint under the title of Motifs. Practices that are effective on the belief of the people's visitation are shapedunder a view of Islâm religion. Although these practices are assumed to be related to the religions by some, it is analyzed under study of Divinity as different subject. In this study, according to the general conditions of Public Science, these beliefs were evaluated without being marginalised as "superstitious" or "Hurâfe". As a result of the evaluation, it has emerged that visiting places are a cultural element that assists in the provision of social unity and solidarity.
