Abstract (EN)

identity. Tile kabaras have survived to the present day in various forms and shapes throughout history, from the Anatolian Seljuk period to early Ottoman art, and from the Classical Ottoman architecture to the Republican era. A total of 521 tile kabaras were examined throughout the thesis. Of the identified kabaras, 221 were found in Istanbul, 283 in Konya, 5 in Bursa, 2 in Kayseri, and 2 in Edirne. Of the tile kabaras examined, 199 were used on exterior surfaces, and 306 were used indoors; they were used on interior surfaces, mihrabs, and doors. Formwise analysis revealed that 171 of the kabaras were hemispherical, 5 with openwork, 24 with domed forms, 40 with conical forms, and 2 with geometric forms. Decorative analysis revealed that 30 were multicolored, patterned and/or decorated, and 479 were monochrome, using colored glaze techniques. Turquoise, cobalt, and white were frequently used in forms produced using the monochrome glaze technique. As a result, the influence of the tile kabaras used in Turkish architecture and their use in buildings built in different periods were analyzed in the thesis text.
