Abstract (EN)
This thesis is carried out to determine the ecological characteristics (climate, site and soil properties) of major forest nurseries in Turkey and the species produced in these nurseries, as well as providing ecological evaluations. Fifteen forest nurseries which constitute the material of the study include; Erzurum, Sivas, Mardin, Ereğli, Eğirdir, Eskişehir, Bolu, Hendek, İzmit, Bahçeköy, Sındırgı, Muradiye, Aydın, Gökova, Karahasanlı Forest Nurseries. As a result of this study, climatic characteristics and elevation of nurseries is an important constraint or advantageous situation among the ecological factors in the number of species produced in nurseries. In addition, species demanded mainly in the new forest establishments in the immediate vicinity of the nursery, the intensity of demand for the species used mainly in the landscaping, the priorities of the nursery production, density of nurseries in similar ecological conditions in the nearby environmental conditions and the size of the nursery may also be effective on the species diversity produced in these nurseries. In general, soil properties, unlike climatic conditions, are somewhat changeable in the nursery conditions and it can even be completely under control in containerized seedling production; therefore, the effects of soil properties is not as decisive as climatic conditions in seedling production. Nevertheless, the location to be selected as a nursery area should also be suitable in terms of soil characteristics as much as possible. Because, amelioration of the soil properties is quite expensive and is a difficult method for the practitioners. For this reason, the establishment of a new nursery should be avoided in places where the soil is not suitable and the climate is challenging.
