Vocabulary of education in Dictionary of Colloquial Compilation

There are multiple definitions of the phenomenon of language that exists within humans. The variant of the language spoken by a society that most clearly reflects that society's culture is the vernacular. Words differ in pronunciation or meaning in every region of the linguistic geography. The vernacular differs from the standard language in many ways. The language of educated individuals is close to the standard language. In this study, the vocabulary related to education in the vernacular language-which is part of Anatolia's oral cultural heritage but is used only to a limited extent in the language of education-has been identified based on the Turkish Language Association's Compilation Dictionary. The main objective is to reflect the traditional words used among the people in the language of educated individuals and thus make communication meaningful. In this context, hundreds of words in the six volumes of the DS were examined, and words with educational content or that could be associated with education were selected. These selected words were also classified according to various fields of educational sciences. Under each classification, words appropriate to the relevant field and their explanations are provided, along with suggestions on how these words can be related to education. This study describes a vocabulary that draws on folk culture for educational language. At the same time, the study aims to build a bridge between culture and educational communication by ensuring that words reflecting the people's worldview are integrated into education. The results of the study contribute significantly to facilitating the adaptation process of teachers performing their mandatory duties in different parts of Anatolia through a policy of localization in education.
