The direction of communal/spatial change happened in villages in the process of rapid urbanisation in Turkey: A sample of Batman Tilmerç Village

It is important to understand the process of transforming villages into neighbourhoods joined to urban areas with rapid urbanisation hitting the social landscape of Turkey particularly after 1950 and ideas and practices related to how such rapid structural and cultural changes are witnessed and felt by the inhabitants of such rapidly urbanising areas. This research aims to discuss what kind of a change (social, cultural, economic) happened in the lives of people who are between the two lifestyles (peasant-urbanite) when Tilmerç Village, which was previously a remote village settlement in the city of Batman, approached the city center after the rapid urbanization and merged with the city. To find answers to the questions in the context of the subject of this thesis like "How do people who experienced this process interpret this process and how do they react to this process?", "What kind of changes have occured in the cultural foundation of these people's relationships they constituted (family, relatives, neighbourliness etc.) beyond material change?", "What is the qualification of the transformation of local peasants into neighbourhood residents in villages and cities where funds (economic, cultural, social) are distributed differently?" covers the main objectives. At the same time this study which discusses the Tilmerç Village that was also previously in the village status, its process of being connected to the city and what kind of a transformation the village's settlement went through in during and after this process from a sociological aspect has been carried out within the scope of qualitative research based on in depth interview technique with a semi-structured interview form.
