Özet (EN)

Changes and improvements of mass media and means of individual use which initiated in 20.century and have still been ongoing have popularized the use of them. These changes and improvements in the communication technologies have accompanied the problem of content and caused the abundance of information. Such a situation has revealed the problem of access to the true information of the individuals. The media struggle for increasing the demand of its products and making them reach to more and more receivers with their unique methods. In this situation, one should be aware of the media messages to which they are exposed in the media. Developing such an awareness is provided with the individual's being "media literate". Media literacy is included into the curricula in most of the developed countries. Media literacy has been offered as a selective course in secondary education schools since 2006 upon the proposal of Radio and Television High Council in 2004, with the approval of Turkish Ministry of National Education in Turkey. In this study, status of media literacy in the world and Turkey is analyzed with literature search. The content of "Media Literacy Teaching Material" published in 2014 is analyzed by the document analysis method with single screening model.
