Document analysis of articles and theses on nanoscience and nanotechnology education in Turkey

Abstract (EN)
The purpose of the study was to determine the thematic and methodological status of the articles and theses prepared in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology education in Turkey and to reveal the related trends. In line with this purpose, the document analysis design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study group included articles and theses published until December 2020, starting from the first study carried out in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology in Turkey. The articles and theses were analyzed using the "Article Classification Form" and "Thesis Classification Form" developed by Sözbilir, Kutu, and Yaşar, (2012). The articles and theses examined were subjected to descriptive analysis, and the findings were presented in the form of frequency/percentage tables. In the study, it was revealed that there were 54 studies in total, 28 of which were articles and 26 of which were theses prepared in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology education. It was seen that the first study on nanoscience and nanotechnology education in Turkey was a doctoral thesis conducted in 2008. It was revealed that the majority of the theses were master's thesis, and the majority of the articles were published in international journals. In addition, the articles and theses were mostly about determining the level of awareness, and the survey model was frequently preferred among the quantitative research methods. It was seen that qualitative and mixed research methods were also used in articles and theses, yet such studies were few in number. When the sample groups in the studies were examined, it was found that preservice teachers were mostly preferred. The findings revealed a picture of the research trends in the theses and articles on nanoscience and nanotechnology education in Turkey. Thus, the findings were presented as a guide for both researchers working in the related field as well as for those who want to work in this field in the future.
