Peanut production economics in Turkey

In this study, by examining the farms dealing with the peanut production in Adana, Osmaniye and îçel provinces, which consist of nearly 80% of Turkey's peanut production, the economic structure and problems of peanut production activities in these farms were revealed. Under the light of obtained findings, some recommendations for solutions for peanut production activities were improved. According to the achieved outcomes, the average planting land of the observed farms is 117,05 da whereas the average peanut cultivated area is 66,11 da. The fields where the peanut is the first product constitute 60,62%, and the fields where the peanut is the second product constitute 39,38% of the total peanut cultivated fields. The peanut varieties used by the farms are NC-7 and Com. The average yield for peanut production was determined as 287,37 kg/da. The assets of the farms producing peanuts is 120.906 million TL on average. 83,97% of this is farm capital and 16,03% working capital The farms used 65,39 h/da man power and 4,49 h/da machine power for peanut production. The average gross domestic production value in the farms is 197.171.000 TL/da and production cost is 157.280.000 TL/da. 74,77% of the production cost is variable cost and 25,23% of it is fixed cost. The production cost for 1 kg peanut is determined as 535.445 TL. The average net profit of peanut production in the farms is 36.891.129 TL/da and the relative profit is 123,46%. According to price parity with the peanut and its major rivals, it is determined that the peanut price, in comparison with the beginning of the season, rose more at the end of the season than soybean and cotton price, but this increase was lower than the corn prices.
