Economic analysis of olive oil market in Türkiye

The olive plant is a plant that has been used and grown since ancient times. Since it has been used since ancient times, it has been the subject of different studies at every moment of life and almost every period of human history. Olive has been recorded as a source of income not only today but also during the Ottoman Empire. When we look at empirical literature, we see that there is a positive relationship between agricultural products and export and economic growth. In this respect, the idea that olives and olive oil can contribute to the national economy has motivated the study. The aim of this study is to discuss the contribution of olives and olive oil to the Turkish economy, whether the functioning of the sector is effective or not, and to identify problems and develop solutions for increasing the added value of the sector. The descriptive analysis technique, one of the quantitative analysis techniques, is used in the research. For this purpose, Turkey-wide olive and olive oil production, number of trees, consumption, export numbers and economic growth data between 2013–2024 were obtained from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) database. With the obtained data, the contribution of olives and olive oil to the Turkish economy, sectoral analysis and marketing margin in the supply chain were examined using the descriptive analysis method, which is one of the quantitative analysis techniques. In the research, analysis was also carried out with the help of comparative tables. In line with the findings, it has been concluded that the marketing process is effective and contributes positively to Turkey-wide production, consumption, export and economic growth data.
