Relation between the International Criminal Court and the United Nations

The International Criminal Court is a permanent judicial body created by the international community and established under the Rome Statute in order to prosecute and investigate the most severe international crimes. From all of the United Nations bodies, The United Nations Security Council has the largest jurisdiction over the work of the Intenational Criminal Court. As well as the power to bring an event to the International Criminal Court, the United Nations Security Council was also given the right to prevent the Court from looking at a case. Therefore, many believe that the interventions of the United Nations Security Council undermines the independence and impartiality of the International Criminal Court. However, in order to protect international peace and security, these two international institutions have the greatest authority.
