Examining the relationship between digital privacy awareness and cyber ​​victimization among university students

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between university students' awareness of digital privacy and their experiences of cyber victimization. In this context, the study investigates whether digital privacy awareness and cyber victimization -emerging as a result of cyberbullying- differ according to gender, academic year, daily internet usage duration, and the social media platforms used. Additionally, from a social work perspective, the role of digital privacy awareness within the empowerment theory is explored. A descriptive and relational survey model was employed in the research design. The study sample consists of 560 university students. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Revised Cyberbullying/Cyber Victimization Inventory for University Students, and the Online Privacy Awareness Scale. The findings reveal a low positive correlation between university students' digital privacy awareness and their levels of cyber victimization. Furthermore, a moderate positive relationship was found between cyberbullying and cyber victimization. Digital privacy awareness and cyber victimization were observed to differ significantly based on gender, duration of internet use, and the social media platforms utilized.
