Examining the relationship between leisure time satisfaction and university adjustment among university students

The purpose of this research was determined to examine the relationship between students' leisure time satisfaction and adaptation to university life. For this purpose, the population of the research consists of students studying at Akdeniz University Central Campus in Antalya. The sample group consisted of 111 male (Mean Age = 21.982±2.753) and 139 female (Mean Age = 21.640±4.462) students who participated voluntarily in this universe. To reach the sample, convenience sampling technique, one of the non-probability sampling methods, was used. To collect data, the Leisure Time Satisfaction Scale, developed by Jacob G. Beard and Mounir G. Ragheb in 1980 and adapted to Turkish culture by Gökçe and Orhan in 2011, the University Adjustment Scale developed by Tuhanioğlu in 2017, and a personal information form prepared by the researcher were used. The analysis of the data was carried out on a computer using the IBM SPSS 23 (Statistics for Windows) program. As a result of the analysis, two significant canonical correlations were obtained and the significant contributions of the variables to these canonical functions were examined at the .45 significance level. As a result, it has been determined that as the psychological, educational, social, physical and aesthetic satisfaction in the leisure satisfaction data set increases, students' institutional and personal-emotional adaptation to the university increases. At the same time, it was determined that as the relaxation, aesthetic, educational, physical and psychological satisfaction in the leisure satisfaction data set increased, the social adaptation of the students increased. In the light of the data obtained as a result of the study, it is thought that increasing the free time activities and improving the physical conditions of the universities will have a positive contribution to the adaptation of the students to the university.
