Investigation of perceptional parental acceptancerejection in childhood and the social self- efficacy with the interaction of opposite sex according to the flirting behaviours of university students

In this research, it has been aimed to indicate that if there is a connection between the university students' perception levels of the parental acceptance-rejection and the social self efficacy with the interaction of opposite sex according to the flirting behaviour. It has also been investigated that if the students' perception levels of the parental acceptance-rejection and the level of the social self efficacy in interacting with the opposite sex change according to some variables. The students who Çukurova Universty's graders have formed the universe of research. This research consists of 128 female and 172 male totally 300 students. In this study with the aim of indicating the perception levels of parent child interaction of the students, Parental Acceptance Rejection/Control Questionnaire has been used, and, to indicate the levels of social self efficacy in interacting with opposite sex, The Social Self Efficacy in Interacting with Opposite Sex Questionnaire has been used. In addition, the individual information form consisting of the questions to investigate students' sex, age, level of grade and some items about themselves and their intimate relationships has been used. Data collected during the research has been analyzed with SPSS 11.5 packet program. During analysis process of data, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient, t-test for independent groups, One-Way Analysis of Variance and Kruskall iv Vallis Test were used. Margin of error was estimated as 0.05 at the statistical analysis of data. According to results of the research, "Finalizing" social competence of students who perceived "Indifference/Neglect" from their father was found as high and "Initialisation" social competence of students who perceived "Control" from their father was found as low. It has been discovered that male students perceived much more "Warmth/Affection" from both parents and they possessed the social competence of "Initialisation" and "Finalizing" more. Additionally, male students perceive more "Control" from their mother and "Indifference/Neglect" from their father. When the first flirt ages were examined, it has been found that students who flirted before age 20 and has not flirted yet perceive more "Control" from their mother and students who lived their first flirt under the age 20 possessed more the social competence of "Initialisation." It has been determined that according to the flirt experience, students who perceived more "Warmth/ Affection" from their mother give importance to tactile interaction no matter whether there is affective interaction; students who perceived "Indifference/Neglect" from their father give more importance to tactile interaction than affective interaction at their flirt interactions; students who give importance to tactile interaction no matter there is affective interaction feel themselves more competent at initializing and finalizing interaction with opposite sex. Students who share their flirt interaction with father perceive more "Control" when compared with students who share their flirt interaction with mother and both mother and father and the students who share their flirt interaction with their fathers posses higher competence of "Initialisation" interaction with opposite sex. It has been defined that students who have stated that their mothers would react positively to their flirt interaction perceive more "Warmth/ Affection" from their mother; students who have stated that their mothers would react negatively perceive less "Indifference/Neglect" and "Control" and more "Undifferentiated Rejection." It has been discovered that students who have stated that their fathers would react positively to their flirt interaction perceive less "Warmth/Affection" from their fathers and more "Undifferentiated Rejection" and who have stated that their father would react neither positively nor negatively perceive more "Hostility/Aggression" and students who have stated that their fathers would react positively to their flirt interaction perceive more "Initialisation" social competence. The findings summarized above have been discussed in the light of research findings.
