Relationship between personality traits, academic success and self-esteem among university students

The aim of this study is to identify the relationship between Personality Traits, Academic Success and Self Esteem among university students. We used Rosenberg Self Esteem scale to find out student's self esteem level, also we used Five Factor Personality test to find out student's personality traits. For Academic Success we asked students their last semester GPA. Self Esteem is how we value ourselves, how valuable we think we are to the others. . Personality tratits are the total of charactestics, the things that we use to make ourselves unique. Academic Success is the success of the students in their education lifes. Training questionnaire consisting of sixty-six questions were given to the students. One hundred and forty questionnaire forms were evaluated. Our research contains Beykent university, Science and literature Faculty's first, second, third and fourth grade Undergraduate students. We used Spss For Windows 15.00 program to analyze the results. As a result there is a weak, negative relationship between self esteem and extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness and openness points of students but there is a weak, positive relationship between self esteem and neuroticism points of students. According to the relationship between Academic Success and Personality Traits of students; there are not significant differences between Academic Success and extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness and openness points of students, but there are significant differences between Academic Success and neuroticism points of students. According to the Self Esteem scores, the students whose grade point averages are between 1.00- 2.49 have lower Self Esteem scores than other students. According to the results of analyzes, there are not significant difference between Self Esteem scores of students and their GPA.
