Abstract (EN)
The puipose of this study is to examine the changes in psychological symptoms of high school children who are preparing for the nationwide university entrance examination in respect to gender, socio-economic status, parental education, familial perceived social support and the number of exam attempts. The cohorts were from Seyhan Rotary Anatolian high school, Sunar Nuri Çomu high school, 5 Ocak high school, Borsa high school, Private Gündoğdu high school, Private Büfen high school, Zirve Prepation courses, Toros Prepation courses and Bilgefen Prepation courses which are in Yüreğir and Seyhan central towns of Adana city and included 230 girls and 258 boys to a total of 488 adolescent "Perceived Social Support Scale", "Brief Symptom Inventory" and "Personal data-information Form" was used for data collection^ The datas were analysed by using 2X2 and 2X3 contingency tables, Scheffe-F tests were used to analyse the common effects and the signifiance was interpreted at 0.05. As a result, the level of perceived social support by the females were lower in terms of perceived social support from the family than those of males; the anxiety and depression symptoms were higher for females. The level of perceived social support by those who are from a higher socio economic status were higher in relation to the interaction of perceived social support from the family and socio-economic status. The incidance of psychological symptoms increased as the socio-economic status was higher.
