Abstract (EN)
This study aims to analyse Earthsea Series, written by Ursula K. Le Guin, regarding how language is used by the author and its transference in Turkish translation in terms of cultural and linguistic elements of gender. Although series contain six separate books, the last two books are excluded from the research as they are not related to the main plot of the story. Since the case books of the series were written in 22 years which correspond with the spring of feminist movements' effect on literature, they might, within themselves, indicate a considerable amount of differences in language use. Therefore, the translation of the series might possibly adapt those differences in accordance with target culture's transformation in that time shift. The source text and the target text are both examined with Critical Discourse Analysis approach with respect to linguistic and cultural gender. The target text is also analysed through source text adaptation in Turkish translation as well as feminist translation strategies. The fact that English and Turkish are two highly different languages, it is possible to talk about significant differences in both their linguistics and cultures. Thus, this study seeks to find out and show those notable differences in the source text and its transference in the target text as well as whether the translator has adopted feminist translation strategies, or the language of the source text has remained.
