Comparative economic analysis of organic and conventionalproduction in grape growing

In this study, the conventional and organic production in grape cultivation in Dicle district of Diyarbakır province was intended to compare in economic way. This study was carried out in 160 vineyards in Dicle. The data were obtained as a result of the surveys conducted with the producers. In the study, age and educational status of producers, size of vineyards, organization status, business assets, tools and machines, vineyard facilities and properties, grape varieties, plant protection practices, viticulture activity expenses, perennial grape yield and grape cultivation were examined. While the yield of grapes in per decare was 85,5 kg in the form of conventional grape production, it is 209,7 kg in organic grape production. In organic grape production, the average grape yield per decare was found to be 2,5 times higher than in conventional grape production. The total cost of grape cultivation activities in conventional agriculture is 981,8 Turkish Lira while grape cultivation activity in organic grape cultivation was found to be 1.670,6 Turkish Lira in total. In conventional agriculture, the total cost of processing grapes is 1.274,9 Turkish Lira and in organic agriculture it is 954,7 Turkish Lira. The variable expenses in grape growing were determined as 2.256,7 Turkish Lira in conventional grape production and it is 2.305,4 Turkish Lira in organic grape production. The gross production value of conventional grape production enterprises was calculated as 431,6 Turkish Lira per decare, whereas the gross production value of organic grapes production was 502,2 Turkish Lira per decare. Gross profit per decare is calculated as 121,4Turkish Lira in conventional grape production and 335,1 Turkish Lira in organic grape production. According to the results, it is determined that organic grape cultivation is more advantageous than conventional grape cultivation.
